明けましておめでとうございます☆
波瀾万丈の昨年が過ぎ、ついに2010年がやって来ました！皆さんにとって、ずっと胸に秘めたチャレンジををやり遂げることの出来る年になりますようにo(^-^)o

宮崎県最後の夜
昨日の夜は、中所さんのご実家にお世話になりました。ご両親とおばあちゃん、妹さん達、弟さん達、妹さんの旦那様と子供達と総勢10名の皆さんと夜を一緒に過ごすことが出来ました。年末の忙しい中、雨に濡れたら気の毒だと私達を迎え入れてくれた中所ファミリー。兄弟が多くてみんな個性的（しかも全員B型らしい！）なのに本当に仲が良くて、ピュアで面白くて優しくて強い。どうしたらこんな良い子供達が揃うのか教えて頂きたいと思うほど素敵なご家族でした。明日は20キロ歩かなくてはいけないのに、12時を回っても寝るのがもったいないくらい楽しい夜を過ごすことが出来ました。素敵な家族に囲まれて幸せでしたo(^-^)oありがとうございます。
a chance meeting led to a great supporter which then led to regular updates on her radio show which all culminated in one fantastic night with her family on our last night in miyazaki. mr and mrs nakajo,obaasan,satoko, shingo ma kun and claire, mi kun, hana chan and taro kun thank you so much for your hospitality and for letting us be a part of your family for one night. miki nakajo san, thank you for everything. unforgettable two weeks.

中所さんに始まり中所さんに終わる
思えば宮崎県に入ると同時にサンシャインFMの中所さんの番組にラジオ出演させて頂いたご縁で、それから今日までず〜っと中所さんには助けて頂きっぱなしでした。
宮崎一日目はラジオ出演。そして延岡市まで3時間の道程を会いにきてくれました。
冬至の日には風邪をひかない様にとゆずを持って来てくれました。
クリスマスイヴには美味しいチキン南蛮のお店に連れて行ってくれました。
富士では周りに何もないからとお握りを差し入れしてくれました。
油津では友達が釣ったとれたてのアジを持ってきてくれました。
そして昨日、串間では雨の降る中歩いている私達を心配した中所さんのお母様がお家に泊めてくれました。
今日は私達をラジオ出演させてくれた後、年最後の挨拶をしに妹さんたちと一緒に志布志まで会いにきてくれました。
私達がいる間、中所さんはずっとサンシャインFMで私達の応援メッセージを伝え続けてくれました。こんなに力強い応援をしてくれた中所さんがいたからこそ、宮崎県で最高の思い出が作れたといっても過言ではありません！
中所さん、本当〜にありがとうございました！

よわら夢広場からの誕生日プレゼント☆
榎原に着いたけど民宿もホテルもない。風も吹いていて寒いけど、テント泊しかないか。よわら夢広場の方にテントを張るところがないかと聞いたら、「中に使っていない和室があるから使ってください。外は寒いでしょう」
といってくれました。正直、ミックの誕生日だし外で寒い中過ごすのは可哀相だなぁと思っていたので、本当に嬉しかったです。最高のプレゼントをありがとうございました！

as we came in to kushima, a car pulled up in front of us and out popped yoshida san and her daughter maki to wish us luck and to give a donation. it was nice to be able to speak in english with maki whose was perfect. thank you for your donation and support maki and yoshida san.

最後の県．．．鹿児島！
ついに来ました鹿児島！北海道から数えて18道府県目。ここまで183日。本当に来ちゃったよ！あとゴールまであと5日。一歩一歩踏み締めて歩きます。
here we are. . .our last prefecture, kagoshima. the only thing left is cape sata our goal that everyone said was impossible. 5more days. only 5 more days.

串間駅の駅
takeuchi san who we had met earlier came and found us again as we were walking into kushima city and asked us if we could stop by the station on our way through. what was he up to? we soon found out. he had rounded up a bunch of locals who gave us a nice welcome as we ame in. amongst them was a familiar face. there stood tomisho san who we had met 3 days earlier in phoenix michi no eki. he had brought us our favourite miyazaki sweet, mango caramels, knowing that it would be our last chance to get them in miyazaki. thank you everyone for a great welcome.

もうすぐ榎原に着く頃、人影が。見るとそこには昨日お世話になった弓削さんが！何もないところを歩いていたのを知っていたので、私達が困っていないかとお弁当とパンを持って来てくれたのです。しかもお弁当はミックが食べたいと言って朝から探していたチキン南蛮！最高の誕生日プレゼントになりました。感謝感激です！！
yuge san! ah yuge san! for my birthday, all i wanted was to eat chicken namban, miyazaki's local dish that i had grown a craving for. but as luck would have it, it was nowhere to be found. as we headed into the mountains, tummy's still craving for chicken, along came yuge san, smile on his face, hands full. i've bought you some dinnerhe said. we opened the bags to find...you guessed it chicken namban. how did he know? thank you yuge san.

あじのおみやげ☆
なんで生の魚を差し入れに？と言いますと、私達がNHKに出演しているのをご覧になっていて、今日は日南市の親切な方（弓削さん）のお家に泊めてもらうという情報を知り、それならその方達と一緒にアジを食べてもらおうと、中所さんに連絡があったそうです。まだお会いしたこともないのに私達の事をそこまで考えてくれるなんてとても嬉しいです。ありがとうございました！
nakajo san, who has been supporting us all the way through miyazaki, stops by each day to introduce us to some new part of miyazaki's culture. today it was aji, a kind of fish that is common now. a more delicious fish i am yet to eat. thank you

差し入れを頂きました！
half way through our day in the wildernessof nichinan's coastline, we realized we hadn't prepared enough food to get us through. enter our saviour on a moped. having passed us earlier, he had gone to theshops t buy drinks nd chcolates. we never found out his name, but we thanked him for the rst of the day.

on a day when there was nothing between oiur start and our finish, the strap on my stilts broke off. wouldn't you know it. no strap makes walking a tiresome task and with 20kms ahead, our day started to look neverending. that was until we stumbled across a post office with the friendliest workers who leant us enough tape to tie up what was left of a scraggly strap. japan post, there is always one when you need it. thank you udo post office.

we met masami san and koga san way back in our very first weeks in hokkaido and said to each other tHEN 'we'll see you n kyushu' not reaaly believing at the time that we would make it this far. but here we are 5months later, and here they were to greet us.

miyazaki makes sightseeing more fun than tghe sights themselves with buses from times past and trains of polished wood. we were passed so many times by this bus we were amlost friends by the end.

our frst night after miyazaki was spent in the lovely beach resort town of aoshima. the small island off it is known for its unusual rock formations that look more like the old style wasing boards than rocks. anice walk to start the day.

青島付近で会ったおじいちゃんおばあちゃん
26日。青島に行く途中で老人ホームのスタッフの方につき立てのお餅を頂きました。更に中に入らせて頂き、おじいちゃんおばあちゃんとお話させてもらうことができました。竹馬を見てとても喜んでもらうことができてこちらも嬉しかったです！
walking toward aoshima after christmas in miyazaki, we were invited in to a nursing home for people with alzheimers.we passed on some chocolates for xmas after being fed and welcomed so nicely by people who probably forgot who we were or why we were there soon after we left.

クリスマスプレゼント
クリスマスプレゼントをお互いに用意しました。私はスタ―バックスカードと手袋をあげたのですが、ミックはもっとすごいものを用意していました！
「ものが大きすぎて持って帰ってこれなかったから、直接お店に行ってものを確認してから送って」と言われお店に行ってみると、そこにはマッサージのお店が！昨日からマッサージのスタッフの皆さんにメニューを伝え、私にマッサージをしてほしいとお願いしておいてくれたのです！すごい嬉しいサプライズでした＾＾スタッフの皆さんもとてもフレンドリーでいい感じのお店でした。
Relax980のノナカさん、マツダさん、ヤマムラさん、ミワさん、そして素敵なサプライズを用意してくれたミック、本当にありがとう！！すごく気持ち良かったです。これで残りの旅も頑張れます☆

Christmas comes to Miyazaki
Miki is my angel! Christmas was always going to be a quiet affair this year, a nice dinner, maybe a movie, but we always thought that presents could wait until we got back to Chiba! Not so for Miki however who had started planning way back in Oita prefecture!! I love something called mochi, a Japanese sweet. Recently there has been a mochi boom with an amazing aray of flavours flooding only a few of the most exclusive department stores. Finding a store is like finding gold, but Miki did in Oita and had the shop send every flavour of mochi available to our hotel just in time for Christmas. And this morning they arrived, much to my happy surprise! Miki you are brilliant! Thank you for a great Xmas you clever girl!
ミックの誕生日は今月の29日。どうやらその日は山の真ん中にいることになりそうなので、事前にプレゼントを用意していました。それは、ミックがこの旅で大ファンになった「MOCHI CREAM」というお菓子。初めて食べたのは新潟の伊勢丹で買った時。それからと言うもの毎日のようにモチモチ言っていたのでこれは喜ぶかな～と思って、全部で24種類あるすべての味のおもちをホテルに送ってもらってもらいまいした。すると、すごい喜びようでこちらも嬉しくなりました＾＾誕生日おめでとう！

On the night before Christmas when all through the house was still, we were out at NHK Miyazaki studio for a live broadcast arranged by our angel Nakajo san from Sunshine FM. For a TV crew, they were as friendly as our own family and after only 10mins we were feeling more at home just before a broadcast than we had any time before. The broadcast went like they usually do, with Miki performing brilliantly and I, well held the stilts well. To the staff of NHK Miyazaki, thank you for a great afternoon. And also thank you for your support all the way with us to the end in Cape Sata!!

When it rains, it pours. In the space of a few hours our arrival in Miyazaki was covered by radio, newspaper and TV. Hopefully it will inspire some donations for Pongo's forest. The project has been decided and we'll be putting the details here after this challenge to show you just how much these donations are going to help! Stay Tuned!

サンシャインFMの中所さんお待たせしました！
冬至なのでどうしても柚子を渡したい！という思いから私達を探し続けて4時間。。本当にお待たせしました！ごめんなさい（汗）冬至の日に柚子湯に入ると風邪をひかないと言われているので、一生懸命私たちを探してくれたんですよね。その気持ちがとても嬉しかったです。ありがとうございます！！これでゴールまでばっちりです☆
Miyazaki City's local radio personality Nakajosan has taken us under her wing and been following our progress each morning on her show, calling in at 7.30 each day for the latest reports on where we are and how we feel. Yesterday she came to find us after her broadcast to pass over some Yuzu drink in celebration of the winter solstice. People here put yuzu (a citris fruit) into baths on this day to ward off colds during the coming cold season...if only hey had found us a week earlier! :0)

またまた！父のテニスクラブつながり
両親が所属するテニスクラブの清水さんから電話を頂き、「宮崎のシーガイヤにあるテニスコートに行ってみてください」と言われ、とりあえず行ってみた。テニスクラブの受付に行ってみると、竹馬を持った私達を見てすぐに分かった様子で、「お荷物お預かりしております。」と笑顔で封筒を渡された。中にはテニスボールのキーホルダーと千葉国体のバッチが！こんなプレゼントが待っているとは思いも寄らず、とっても嬉しかった！
清水さんはテニス協会の理事をしていて、私達のチャレンジを知り募金活動の方法を考えてくれていたようだ。なんとか方法を考えるからとりあえずキーホルダーとバッチつけておいてね☆と清水さん。私達のリュックに素敵なデコレーションが加わった＾＾
清水さんありがとうございます！
ちなみにこのテニスコートでは、年に一度プロフェッショナルの大会があるそうで、伊達公子さんも去年プレイしたそうです。とっても綺麗なコートでミックもおおはしゃぎでした（笑）
A nice change to our routine was a quick stop to say hello to the staff at Sea Gaia Tennis Club, all friends of our tennis friend Shimizu san from West Green Tennis Club in Shiroi, Chiba. For me it was heaven. Kimiko Date posters covered the walls after her victory there in the challenger tournament earlier in the year, tennis racquets hung from every nail and there was even an offer to play tennis for free on their indoor courts.....in only Miki hadn't grabbed hold of my arm and dragged me out before I could get hold of a racquet!!

ラジオで噂になってる！？
昨日新富町から宮崎市を歩いている間、何人もの方にラジオで放送されてましたよ！と言われました。写真のテルエさん＆さとみさんは昼どき歌謡パラダイスの常連さんだそうで、さっそくラジオ局にメールを送ってくれました。ありがとうございます！
また、通りがかったお店の前でみかんを頂きました。ジュンコサン、アトシサンありがとうございました！
As we were walking along toward Miyazaki City, the number of people yelling support from cars increased with each step. Aparently, FM radio were following our every move, asking listeners to call in with any details about us and our whereabouts. That was how we came to meet Terue san, Satomi san, and Junko and Atoshi san。

新富町から歩いている途中で会った明るいお母さんと可愛い赤ちゃん＾＾昨日私達を見たらしく、インターネットで探してくれたのです。もともと実家が千葉で、最近宮崎に引っ越してきたそうです。朝から元気をもらいました。ありがとうございます！
On a cold morning outside a supermarket in Shintomi, we were warmed up by the great smiles of Emi san and her baby Shan san, both also from Chiba who had popped over to wish us luck.

宮崎の海
there have been many places we've fallen in love with but its hard to go past anywhere with a beach as nice as this. kanegahama greeted us with wide sandy beaches and what i think will turn into the best campsite so far. we're lying in it now and will show you tomorrow.

しいたけさんとの再会
the world always gets a little smaller when you travel and we found that out today when we were stopped with shouts of 'mick. miki.' as the motorbike pulled up and the helmet came off, we were surprised to see shiitake san, a rider wehad met in an out of theway cave in aomori months before. he was on his way down to okinawa when he bumped into us. and he did so right out the front of a lottery agency. we couldn't resist the call of fate and went inside to buy entries forthe new year jackpot. as luck, or fate would have it, the shop was run by a lady called oomori san (big forest), whose friend was a photographer whose passion was taking snaps of orangutans. the shop also was full of pics of pongo. coincidence? another amazing happening.
